I was first attracted to a job in the RAF as I have a lot of family in the RAF, my grandfather was an officer. It offers a lot of stability, whilst at the same time it can’t be considered a monotonous job. The main reason I wanted to be a steward was to go on to be an air steward.
Being a steward also allows you to go into several different fields within the RAF like the No3 Mobile Catering Squadron or VIP duties - they get to go all over the world.
My day to day duties as an Air Steward involve checking aircraft security, making myself presentable, checking safety equipment and catering supplies. I also have to keep an eye on everyone, as some people can be nervous or upset as they are leaving their families.
I’m very proud to be there and look after everything; all the staff are very friendly.
I have travelled a lot in my job as a Steward - I have been to the Falklands, Afghanistan, America, Canada and Germany. We were taking in troops and bringing them home, taking out paratroopers for training and tornados to refuel. I would love to keep travelling!
